He was born June 6, 1929, in Defiance County, the son of William and Sarah (Roehrig) Steingass. On December 16, 1950, he married Marian Brandt, who survives. He was a lifelong farmer, starting in spring 1945 to October 2011. He was a 1947 graduate of Jewell High School and was on the board of directors of Jewell Grain. On December 16, 1950, he married Marian Brandt, who survives. He was a lifelong farmer, starting in spring 1945 to October 2011. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Jewell Volunteer Fire Department and McDonald's Coffee Club. He was a bowler. Surviving are his wife, Marian Brandt Steingass; two sons, William (Mary) Steingass of Defiance, and Bruce (Amy) Steingass, Pandora; four daughters, Beverly (Rick) Manon of Defiance, Barbara Steingass of Bryan, Rebecca (David) Bockelman of Defiance and Bethanne (Dale) Falther of Baltimore, Ohio; a sister, Jo Ruffer, Stryker; 12 grandchildren, Kim Berry, Jeremy Manon, Katherine Steingass, Krista Boff, Kelly Justinger, David Steingass, Jennifer Billings, Joseph Schultz, Logan Steingass, Halle Steingass, Zachary Falther and Tyler Falther; and 14 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Joshua, Dylan, Evan, Riley, Benjamin, Karis and Zachary Berry, Caleb and Collin Boff, Zoe Billings and Trista, Allison and Jordan Moore. Preceding him in death were four sisters, Virginia Steingass, Irene Zachrich, Irma Yoder and Ivaloo Dunno. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, rural Defiance, with Rev. Richard Buchsteiner and Rev. Alvera Brandt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery.
