Read More	ANOTHER PIONEER IS CALLED TO REWARD Apoplexy Takes Daniel Morgan Monday - Was Watchman at the Mill Crossing of North Western. Another old-timer has been called to his reward - Daniel Morgan, for a long time past a familiar figure at the mill crossing on the North Western, to watch the public safely across the tracks at that place. Apoplexy is given as the cause of his sudden demise. About his home as usual up to within a few moments before his death, Mr. Morgan was taken suddenly ill with the above mentioned ailment and passed away in the ambulance as he was being rushed to the hospital. His wife died some seven years ago. The following well-written obituary notice has been prepared for The Times by a friend of the deceased: "Thus death is the end of all, and man's life passes like a shadow." Our city and community was shocked about noon Monday by the announcement of the death of Daniel Morgan of the Third ward, the cause of his death being apoplexy. In the for part of the day he was about his home, apparently well as he was a man of unusual vigor for one of his age. He was born in Dubuque county, June 4, 1854, and came to Carroll county in 1874, and was the oldest of a family of eight children. He farmed and held offices of trust in his township and served two terms as a member of the board of supervisors, and at present was a trusty employee of the North Western Railway Company. On October 18, 1882, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Kirk, and to this union five children were born, four of whom are living, one dying in infancy. He is survived by four brothers and one sister: John, of Mitchell, SD; J.J. Morgan, of Seattle; H.B. Morgan, of this city and Charles M. and Ella living west of Carroll. Mr. Morgan returned only a few days ago after enjoying a three week's visit with his brother, John. He was a man loved by all who knew him, always kind, charitable and ready with a helping hand to assist those in trouble. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Hibernians and of the Holy Name society. Mr. Morgan was a man of high character in his community, one who was esteemed for his many virtues. A man who seemed thoroughly to understand his duty to God and his fellowmen, characterized as an honest manly man and a true Christian gentleman, which is the very highest praise than can be bestowed. His name will live in his deeds of kindness while friends and relatives are bowed in grief at the bier of him whose presence among them was a source of pleasure. The world would be far better if there were more men in it of the kindly helpful nature of Daniel Morgan. *Carroll Times Newspaper, October 11, 1923.
