Read More	Daniel Ford On Monday, July 27th funeral services were held for Daniel Ford in St. Scholastica's Church. The deceased had been in failing health for quite awhile. He suffered a stroke of paralysis in July of last year and never completely rallied from the effects. He passed away in St. Joseph's hospital in Mitchell, Friday afternoon, July 24. A gentle, kindly soul, always attending to his own business and ever ready to lend a helping hand for any worthy cause, Mr. Ford was well and favorably known in the vicinity of Letcher, and had the esteem and respect of all those with whom he came in contact. He possessed many warm friends who made every effort to prolong his life. A devout Catholic, he left a lasting benefaction to the Letcher parish in the beautiful winter chapel he fitted up in the Parochial House with everything complete for Divine Service. Daniel Ford was born in Clear Lake, Iowa, in August 1870. At an early age he came with his relatives to South Dakota, where with the exception of a few years as telegraph operator in Montevideo, he spent all his life. For years he worked in the Edward Welch store in Letcher and eventually became joint owner with Mr. R.H. Todd, of the Letcher Mercantile Co. In 1900, he married Miss Mamie Gormley, of Mitchell, and had two children, Wilfred of Chicago; and Imogene, who was called away from life's troubles at an early age. Trouble came thick upon Mr. Ford, when his second wife, Mrs. Anna Welch Ford, after a brief period of happy married life was taken from him by death. Disconsolate, he retired from business and sough forgetfulness in other surroundings. In 1926, Monsignor Amirault appreciating Mr. Ford's integrity and business ability brought him to Sioux Falls and placed him in a responsible position in Columbus College. There he labored successfully for three years grappling with economic problems made difficult by post war conditions. Finally in broken health, Mr. Ford came to live with his brother, Mart, his friends believing that fresh air and rest would give him new life. But the new life which Dan desired was not in the sunshine of South Dakota's fertile fields but away beyond the grave in the realm of the blessed. And a loving God has satisfied that desire. Mr. Ford is survived by his son, Wilfred, his brothers, John and Mart, of Letcher; Edward of Aberdeen; T.J. of California and William of Seneca.
