WINSTON VENABLE OF PILOT MOUNTAIN--Special to the Observer---Pilot Mountain, Jan. 18---Winston Venable, familiarly known as Dan Venable, died at his home on South Main street yesterday of pneumonia fever after an illness of only about seven days. Mr. Venable was born and raised in Stokes county near this place and moved here during the latter part of the Civil War, where he has resided ever since. He would have been 80 years old... He would have been 80 years old in a few weeks. He was one of the oldest citizens of this place and in his younger days had seen the place where the little village stands in wood and pasture. Mr. Venable was a man of considerable means and has been an influential citizen in the building up of the town and community and will be greatly missed by the people of the town and surrounding country. He is survived by his wife and several children and a number of grandchildren. His remains were laid to rest in the Mountain View Cemetery this evening."
