Kennedy, 82 year old Pacolet, SC Route #1, farmer died at Spartanburg General Hospital late Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1958, where he was admitted after suffering a severe beating at his residence on Monday, Jan. 13, 1958. Coroner George L. Adams said he will set a date today for an inquest. Circuit Solicitor J. Allen Lambright said Thursday, Jan. 30, 1958, he had received no report from the State Hospital where Samuel Eugene Bishop, 28, of Route #1, is under observation. He is being held by the Sheriff's Officers in connection with the beating. County police arrested Bishop a few hours after Mr. Kennedy was attacked in his home. Mr. Kennedy was beaten with his own shotgun and had been on the critical list at the hospital since his admission. Mr. Bishop, father of four children, told police that he had been drinking during the afternoon of the attack and that he could not recall having attacked anyone, officers said. He repeatedly denied any knowledge of :terrorizing" the small community near Pacolet, SC, where a man "foaming at the mouth" was said to be terrorizing several residents on the night of the beating. Mr. Kennedy was a native of the Union County, SC and a son of the late John and Mary Weathers Kennedy. He was a member of Pacolet Methodist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Zula Hood Kennedy; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Hood of Route #4 and Mrs. Bessie Hayes of Pacolet, SC, Route #1; two brothers, B. L. "Doc" Kennedy of Pacolet, SC Route #1 and J. P. Kennedy of Ben Avon, SC; and several nieces and nephews. He was 82 years of age at demise and interment was in the Pacolet Methodist Church Cemetery Cemetery. (Original Obituary was rewritten to conform to Findagrave Rules by Record Hunter.)
