Read More	HIATT, DEAN LESTER—Dean Lester Hiatt, son of Robert and Frances Hiatt, was born March 27, 1899, at Hampton, Neb. He passed away at the United States Veterans hospital at Lincoln, Neb., Sunday, May 14, 1961, at the age of 62 years, 1 month and 17 days. Dean grew to manhood and received his education in York county. In the spring of 1918 he, with his parents, moved to Geneva. He enlisted in the armed forces on May 8, 1918, serving 12 months in France and Germany. He was united in marriage to Hazel McCartney of Geneva, July 7, 1920. To this union were born nine children. Mr. Hiatt was in the barber business many years. He operated shops in Geneva, Superior, Sutton and Fairmont. He and Mrs. Hiatt operated the Maryland Café in Geneva several years. Dean was active in the Fillmore County Barracks No. 2118, Veterans of World War I. He had been in poor health for a number of years. The past six months he was a patient at the Veteran’s hospital in Lincoln, where he passed away following a heart attack. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Hazel; his children, Mrs. Norma Jean Burhop of Redondo Beach, Cal.; Mrs. Virginia Darcey of Downey, Cal.; Mrs. Charlotte Garrett of Geneva; Mrs. Dorothy Van Horne of Chicago Heights, Ill.; Mrs. Barbara Bohi and Miss Nancy Hiatt of Omaha; Jack Dan of the United States Navy, Donald of Lincoln and Thomas of the armed forces in Germany; two daughters-in-law Harriett and Sharon Hiatt; five sons-in-law, Howard Burhop, Thomas Darcey, Dean Garrett, Wayne Van Horne and Dr. Daniel Bohi; 15 grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Selover of Kimball, Neb., and Mrs. Mamie Williams of Santa Ana, Cal., and a host of other relatives and friends. All of the children were present for the services. Funeral services were conducted from the Kritner-Farmer funeral home in Geneva at 2 p. m. Friday, May 19, Rev. William Bohi of Havelock, Ia., and Rev. Robert Kasper officiated. Mrs. Gerald Pickerell sang “Ivory Palaces” and “In the Garden”, accompanied by Mrs. Willard Foster. Pallbearers were Robert J. Cellar, Fred Fisher, Ed McCluskey, Howard Nichols, Carl Schneider and Ervin Weber. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery with military rites conducted at the grave.
