Henderson, 88, an 83-year resident of Chelan County, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at Lake Chelan Community Hospital. He was born April 16, 1909, at Norman Station, Ind., the son of Leonard and Lila (Story) Henderson. The family moved to Wenatchee in 1912, where he attended Whitman School. He moved with his family to the Lake Chelan Area, where he attended a country school at Beebe. At age 11, he began making apple boxes at Beebe Orchard Co. In 1925, he worked for Dave Harris and Erin Moore on the mail boat "Scout" for eight months. He was married to Alma Smith in 1926. From 1926 until 1927, he worked on the "Commanche," clearing Lake Chelan for the construction of the Lake Chelan Dam. For many years, he was employed in the fruit industry and, for a few years prior to his retirement in 1974, he was employed with his brother at Henderson Appliance in Wenatchee. On May 15, 1965, he was married to Elsie May Peters at Spokane. From 1975 to 1991, he maintained the grounds at Lucerne for the Lake Chelan Boating Club, of which he was a past commodore. He had been a member of Chelan Eagles No. 2218 and the Lake Chelan Boating Club. Survivors include his wife, Elsie, of the home; a son, Dale of Chelan; a daughter, June Carlson of Chelan; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and a grandson. Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
