Description	:	Don Roderick Duey, with his twin brother. Dale Frederick Duey, was born Sept. 25, 1928, at home in rural Chester to Joseph L. and Minnie I. (Dye) Duey. His brother. Dale, was put into the hands of his Lord at the age of 12 days. Don passed away on March 26, 2009, at the Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home, Hebron at the age of 80 years, six months and one day. Dale, was put into the hands of his Lord at the age of 12 days. Don passed away on March 26, 2009, at the Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home, Hebron at the age of 80 years, six months and one day. Don was baptized in Chester Methodist Church and attended Sunday School and youth groups. He was a member of Chester Methodist Church for 68 years. Don, along with his siblings, grew up on the family farm west of Chester during the dry. Depression years. In the summers, barefoot, with no shoes, the siblings would chase grasshoppers to drown in buckets of water. Recreation for them was swimming in the farm horse tank. Don was an active and energetic 4-H member. He loved caring for his calves, pigs and sheep, which he showed at the county and state fairs and at Ak-Sar-Ben in Omaha. In later years, he was involved in raising Polled Hereford cattle and showing them. As a reward for his 4-H work, he was awarded a trip to National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago. Don attended Chester Public School from kindergarten through 12th grade. After graduation, he attended the University of Nebraska Agriculture College on a Union Pacific Scholarship. In 1951. Don was drafted to serve in the Korean War. He spent time in Korea where he delivered mail to the front lines. Throughout his life, Don was very proud of his military service and was a member of the American Legion. After his discharge from the Army, Don farmed with his father, graduating from dry farming to irrigation farming. He cared for his parents in their elder years. While living on the farm, Don delivered U.S. mail several times a week from Chester Nebraska to Hastings Nebraska. Over the years, some time was also spent working at Chester Elevators. Don enjoyed time with his nephews and nieces where he showed them how to milk a cow, taught them to write on their arm with a ballpoint pen, let them drive the tractor while laying out irrigation pipe and went to Foote's for coffee with them. As the years passed, he always liked to talk to his nephews and nieces about the world's changing technology. Don is a past Master of Masonic Lodge # 298, Chester and was Worthy Patron in the Order of Eastern Star # 289, Chester. He later joined Masonic Lodge # 43, Hebron. Don was also a member of American Legion # 217 in Hebron. He served several years as a rural volunteer fireman in the Chester area. He is survived by brother and sister-in-law, Douglas (Dorothy) Duey of Lincoln; sisters and brother-in-law, Irene Austin, Bellevue; Bonnie (Clyde) Beall, Stillwater, Okla.; Shirley Duey, Lincoln and Joyce Hall, Lincoln; nephews and nieces, Margaret Chisholm, Gordon Duey, Greg Duey, Kim Hall, Brian Austin, Marc Austin, Janet Webb; Brooks Beall, James Beall and Jeremy Beall. He is preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Minnie Duey,;twin brother, Dale Duey; grandparents, brothers-in-law, Stanley Austin and Clifton Hall and niece, Kristi Hall. Funeral services were held March 30 at the Chester United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Baldwin, officiating. Interment followed at the Chester Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Hebron Masonic Lodge # 43 and military graveside rites by the Stateline American Legion Post # 317, Hubbell. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Chester Cemetery. Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Chester, is in charge of the arrangements. Hebron Journal Register, April 1,2009
