Description	:	Don Bergeson, 79 of Pierre died Friday, Nov. 23, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Visitation at Isburg Funeral Chapel. Services will be Thursday, Nov. 29, at Lutheran Memorial Church. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery. Donald was born on Jan. 7, 1928, southwest of Hayes to Arthur and Mary (Olesen) Bergeson. He grew up in Hayes where he attended grade school. He then went to T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre where he graduated in 1947. He was united in marriage to Gretha Floyd on Sept. 2, 1950, at Lutheran Memorial Church in Pierre. To this union came five children; Diana, Bruce, Angela, Joanna and Donald. Donald lived on the home place and engaged in farming and ranching until 1966 when he moved his family to Pierre and he did custom haying and then trucking cattle and grain. After retiring he worked for Beverly Healthcare and volunteered for several years at the Discovery Center. He was named RSVP Volunteer of the Year in 2001 for Discovery Center and Reading Buddies. He was a member of the Golden Kiwanis, RSVP, Four Corners Association, Four Corners Volunteer Fire Department and Hayes Grace Lutheran Church Council. Donald enjoyed fishing and hunting, Four Corners baseball and rodeo, playing gin, visiting and reminiscing with family and friends, spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he especially loved to watch Gunsmoke. Donald is survived by his wife Gretha of Pierre; two sons: Bruce (Sandy) Bergeson, of Philip, and Donald (Becky) Bergeson, of Pierre; three daughters Diana (James) Dyer, of Brandon, Angela (Michael) Determan, of Tioga, N.D., and Joanna (Robert) Gilkerson, of Gettysburg; two brothers Daniel (Janice) Bergeson, of Fort Pierre and Ronnie Bergeson; one sister Ruth (Paul) Inman, of Pierre; two aunts: Harriet Scott, of Sioux Falls, and Vera Rasmussen, of Illinois; one uncle, Wayne (Wilma) Carr, of Colorado; sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
