He passed away at the Fillmore county Hospital in Geneva on July 19, 1990, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 22 days. Read More	TATRO, DONALD HUNTER — Donald Hunter Tatro, the son of Frank and Minnie Hunter Tatro, was born at Geneva, on January 27, 1912. He passed away at the Fillmore county Hospital in Geneva on July 19, 1990, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 22 days. He was raised on a farm northeast of Geneva and attended country school graduating from the Geneva High School in 1930. On August 12, 1933, he was united in marriage to Irene Hampton in York. To this union five children were born: Keith, Del, Sheila, Sterling and Stanley. A nephew, Doyle Richards, was taken into the Tatro home where he remained until his graduation from high school. Don’s love of the land kept him on the family farm for the remainder of his life. Nothing gave Don more pleasure than to plant and harvest his crops and ten his garden, and then travel to Las Vegas for some R & R. He was a generous and loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed spending his spare time with family and friends. He also found great pleasure in helping a friend or neighbor. For a number of years, Don raised prize winning Poland-China Hogs; and cattle. With the help of his sons, Don farmed the Fairmont Air Base for five years, where at one time he raised 5,000 head of sheep. In 1961 during the Berlin Crisis, Don and his two youngest sons cared for three farms while the two older sons were called to duty. Don loved music and for years after family gatherings, they would gather around the piano and sing, while their mother or sister, Donna played. He was a member and often a leader in many organizations. He was a charter member of the Geneva # 403 Grange when it was first organized. He was a past-president and longtime member of the Exeter Feeders and Breeders, and a member of the York REA Board of Directors for years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank and Minnie Tatro; two sister, Mrs. Harry (Rosella) Ward and Mrs. Glen (Dorothy) Richards, two granddaughters, Denise and Diane Gilliam and nephews, Doyle Richards and Dean Richards. Don is survived by his wife, four sons, a daughter, a brother, a sister and ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva on Monday, July 23; with the Rev. Stanley Rider officiating. Mrs. Dorothy Apley accompanied Kelly Eich and Curtis Prater, who sang “Life’s Railway to Heaven” and “My Way.” Casket bearers were Jason, Don W. Dan, Kurt, Greg and Kevin Tatro, David Gilliam and Phil Martin. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. (Source: The Nebraska Signal, 26 July 1990)
