Tatro and Minnie Me (Hunter) Tatro on August 9, 1905, at Geneva. She passed away January 26, 1994, at Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 17 days. She was one of five children in the family. Her entire life was spent in the Geneva area, attending rural country school and graduating from Geneva high School with the Class of 1924. She then taught school until 1925, when she was united in marriage to Cecil P. Richards of Geneva on August 12, 1925. Two sons were born to this marriage, Dean and Dale. Her live revolved around the farm and the activities of helping her husband with the daily tasks and raising her children. Family and their well-being and care were a primary concern for her throughout her life. Her care and concern for others and outgoing personality endeared her to all she met. She was a member of the United Methodist church for over 70 years and was active in all church activities. It was a rare occasion in which she or Cecil missed a Sunday of worship or other church related activity. Other memberships were the Neighbor Club, in which she was active for many years, church circle and Bible studies and for many years, she was involved in judging flowers at the Fillmore County Fair. Her spare time was spent pursuing varied other interests that ranged from music, playing the organ, flowers and gardening, photography, painting and writing a book of memories. Whatever the endeavor, she pursued it with zeal. Throughout her years this zest for life was an endearing trademark. In later years, she and Cecil both took great pleasure in following the varied activities of their grandchildren. Sporting events were seldom missed, regardless of the distance of travel or time involved in attending. Each grandchild’s activity was a special event and one that was eagerly anticipated. Life on the farm always remained a focal part of her life and she continued to help with farm activities whenever the chance presented itself. Her home was always open for family and friends and they were welcomed with gracious hospitality. After the tragic and untimely death of her sister, she became an extended mother to Dorothy’s children. In 1947, DeVone came to live and make her home with Cecil and Donna as a daughter, as did her sister, Delores. A special bond was formed with each being treated as though they were a daughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank C. Tatro and Minnie (Hunter) Tatro; sisters, Dorothy Richards and Rosella Ward, and brother, Don Tatro. Her greatest loss was that of her son, Dean, who died in a tragic accident in April of 1980, at the age of 51. Although there were many tragedy’s in her life, she maintained a spirit of enthusiasm for continuing on with her won. She is survived by her devoted husband, Cecil; son, Dale and his wife, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Doris Richards, widow of Dean; six grandchildren, Blaine Richards, Rodger Richards, Bill Richards, Dixie Richards Dresner, Audrey Richards, Jim Richards and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 29, with the Rev. Stanley Rider officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied Bill Richards who sang “Life’s Railway to Heaven” and “Beyond the Sunset. Rodger Richards read a poem that was most special to Donna. The eulogy was provided by Jim Richards. Those serving as casket bearers were Blaine Richards, Rodger Richards, Jim Richards, Bill Richards, Steve Dresner and Ronald Tatro. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal February 16th, 1994 page 18.
