Harvey, 87, of Akron, Iowa died Oct. 17, 2002 at his residence after a brief illness. Funeral services were Saturday Oct. 19, at Union Creek Lutheran Church, rural Akron, with Rev. Steve Larson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Harvey was born Oct. 25, 1914 to Orlando W. and Lillie (Bedard) Harvey, near Hawarden in rural Union County, S.D. He attended schools in South Dakota and Hawarden. He married Eleanor Stene on June 3, 1937 at Peace Lutheran Church parsonage in rural Alcester. They were farm laborers in the Hinton and Sergeant Bluff areas. In 1945 the couple began farming on their own in the Akron area in Union County. They retired to Akron in 1979, after farming for over 50 years. The couple had continued to reside in Akron until the present time wintering in Arizona for 21 years. Mr. Harvey was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church, Alcester and later became a member of Union Creek Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He was a former school board member for the Hoyt district. He proceeded in death by three sisters, Ellen, Lois, Frances, four brothers, Glen, Billy, Kenneth and John.
