Description	:	Doris Marie "Peggy" (Jones) White, 83, Ellis, died Monday, March 17, 2008, in Beatrice. She was born July 31, 1924, northwest of Liberty, to James Ralph and Lillian Chloe (Hardy) Jones. She was the youngest of four children. She grew up in the Liberty area and was given the nickname "Peggy" by her father as a preschooler. She attended Liberty Public School and was the valedictorian of the Class of 1942. She completed normal training at Peru State College. Read More	Doris Marie "Peggy" (Jones) White, 83, Ellis, died Monday, March 17, 2008, in Beatrice. She was born July 31, 1924, northwest of Liberty, to James Ralph and Lillian Chloe (Hardy) Jones. She was the youngest of four children. She grew up in the Liberty area and was given the nickname "Peggy" by her father as a preschooler. She attended Liberty Public School and was the valedictorian of the Class of 1942. She completed normal training at Peru State College. From Peru State she moved to Beatrice, working at several different jobs. She became the first female to work in the manufacturing plant for Dempster Industries, working in the implement repair department. She later served as a timekeeper and worked in the office. On Sept. 20, 1956, she married Roland White at Geneva. In 1965, she became a full-time mother and homemaker when daughter, Jane, was born. She was a dedicated wife and mother, but also a beloved "Aunt Peg" and special friend. A life-long Christian, she was baptized by immersion March 23,1937, at the Liberty Christian Church. She later transferred her membership to the First Christian Church in Beatrice. She joined the Ellis United Methodist Church Sept. 10, 1961. Although she had been active in church organizations and events throughout her life, she became especially interested in youth activities at Ellis. She served as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher and was director for the week-long summer Bible School for many years. She was the long-time director for the church's Christmas Eve program. She also served as a mentor for youth taking part in confirmation classes. She was active in the Ellis United Methodist Women and held many offices for both church and UMW. She was a member of Vesper Chapter #90ES and received her 50 year pin from the Grand Chapter. As a grade school parent, she was very involved in activities at Cedar School in Beatrice including serving as a room mother for a number of years and being active in the Parent-Teacher Association. She received the Nebraska Congress of Parents and Teachers Certificate of Honorary State Life Membership in 1977. She loved cooking and baking for family and friends and always enjoyed having a "house full" of company. She especially enjoyed being able to have everyone's "favorites" on the table. She enjoyed taking care of the flowers in her yard, especially her roses. She was very interested in genealogy and served as the "unofficial" historian for family members. She had a calendar full of important dates and didn't let many go by without a card or other special acknowledgment. She enjoyed writing and receiving letters from family and friends. She was an avid sports fan. She took special enjoyment in spending summer evenings sitting in her lawn chair watching baseball at Christenson Field. She liked watching young people achieve success and took special pride just recently in watching the Beatrice boys basketball team win its state championship. Survivors: husband, Roland; daughter, Jane White of Ellis; brother, Dean Jones and wife Dorothy of Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Lois (Fletcher) Lampe of Beatrice, Mary Lou White of Beatrice and Ruth Winter of Buffalo Center, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents; brother, Dale Jones; sister, Audra (Wiechmann) Keith; brothers-in-law, Otto Wiechmann, Allen Keith, Donald Fletcher, Richard Lampe, Andrew Winter, Wilbur Borgman, Harlan Rohr, Jeff Knabe and LaVerne White; sisters-in-law, Cecilia Jones, Ilah Winter, Doris (Borgman) Rohr and Elaine Knabe; and parents-in-law, Earl and Alma (Pefferman) White. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Centenary United Methodist Church, Beatrice with Pastor Mary-Ellen Gaither officiating. Visitation will be held at Harman-Wright Mortuary, Beatrice on Tuesday and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. then at church one hour preceding services. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, Liberty, NE. Memorials to Ellis United Methodist Church and Liberty Cemetery Association with Harman-Wright Mortuary in charge.
