Dorothy Lee Hatfield was born September 23, 1922, on a farm east of Grant, Iowa, the daughter of James David and Olive Grace Waters. She attended several rural schools and graduated from Coburg, Iowa in 1939 as salutatorian of her class. She attended Red Oak Jr. College and graduated in 1941. Read More	Dorothy Lee Hatfield age 90 of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the Stanton Care Center. Dorothy Lee Hatfield was born September 23, 1922, on a farm east of Grant, Iowa, the daughter of James David and Olive Grace Waters. She attended several rural schools and graduated from Coburg, Iowa in 1939 as salutatorian of her class. She attended Red Oak Jr. College and graduated in 1941. After college she moved to Santa Monica, California and married James Shere Hatfield on June 16, 1941. After a year and a half Jim was transferred to Tulsa, Oklahoma where their daughter Connie Rae was born on June 3, 1943. Dorothy worked 25 years at the Thomas D. Murphy Company as a proofreader. She was president of the PTA and PTA council. While president of the council, she was sent to the National PTA conference. She served as Oracle of the Royal neighbors of America. She served several years as president of the Faith Rebekah Lodge 174 and chaired all of the state Rebekah committees. She was president of the Red Oak Safety Council and was a Brownie leader for six years. Dorothy was an advocate for the Good Samaritan Nursing Home for 35 years, receiving a plaque from the state Governor thanking her for her service. She delivered meals on wheels for 6 years and for 30 years she organized Red Oak's arts and craft fair. Dorothy loved to play bridge and taught bridge lessons through the CC adult education for 8 years. She planned the Hysham House bridge for 18 years. She continued her visitation ministry to hospitals and shut-ins for as long as her health allowed. She loved sending cards to everyone for special occasions. Dorothy was a member of the Red Oak First United Methodist Church and the CCC Sunday School class and UMW. She and Jim spent several winters in Apache Junction, Arizona, until Jim's death in 1995. She was a great promoter of Red Oak where she was so blessed to live. She moved to Arlington Place in August 2006 where she was so happy and loved her Arlington Place staff and family. Her finals days were at the Stanton Care Center with hospice where she was treated with so much love, compassion and wonderful care. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Gerald Joseph , who died from scarlet fever before Dorothy was born. She is survived by her daughter: Connie Rae Hakarine and son-in-law Duane Dennis Hakarine of Brandon, MS; grandchildren: Kevin James Hakarine of Blaine, MN and Kerrie Lynn Goeden and husband Mike of Cross Plains, WI; great grandchildren: Sydney, Emery and Ellis of Cross Plains, WI; along with nieces, nephews and cousins from CO, NE and Malvern, IA. Funeral services will be held at 10AM, Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak, Iowa, with Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating. A luncheon will e served immediately following the service. Burial will be in Malvern, Iowa Cemetery
