Amick, 88, a longtime Loup City physician, died Jan.11. Services were held Jan. 15 at Fairmount Mortuary in Denver. The Rev. Charles Cook officiated. Entombment was in Fairmount Mausoleum. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, the Presbyterian Church, the Loup City Township library or the Loup City EMT. Dr. Amick was born July 11, 1896, in Grand Island, the son of John W. and Lillian Hall Amick. He received his early education in Grand Island, Loup City, St. Paul, and Kearney. He was a 1915 graduate of Loup City High School and received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska. After serving his internship in St. Paul, Minn., he returned to St. Paul in 1922 and entered practice with Dr. A.E. Wanek. He married Emily Wanek in Nov. 1923. They lived in Loup City, where they purchased the Odendahl home and converted it to a hospital, operating it until he built a new hospital in 1936. He later sold it to the Sisters of St. Joseph and built a modern clinic. Dr. Amick worked hard to raise funds for the building of the present Sacred Heart Hospital in Loup City and in 1952 was honored for thirty years of practice in the city. Ill health forced his retirement in 1954. He remained active in the State Medical Association and the Nebraska State Hospital Association. Mrs. Amick died in 1964, and he then spent some time as a volunteer in Honduras under the auspices of Los Amigos de las Americas. In 1906 he married Mildred A. Helmkamp of Denver. They made their home there. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Loup City and the Windsor Gardens Chapel in Denver. He also was a Rotarian and a member of the Elks, Masons, Shrine, National Sojourners, and the Heroes of '76. He had served as mayor of Loup City and was a 60-year member of the American Legion, having served in the Army Medical Corps during World Was I. Survivors include his widow; a brother, Dr. Jack Amick of Denver; two sisters, Dr. Lillian Lamoreaux of Fullerton, Calif., and Caroline Reed of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a son, Dr. Frank Amick of Manchester, N.H.; two daughters, Janet Charlton of Valentine and Ellen Charlton of Arcadia; a stepdaughter, Annabella Du Bois of McLean, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 1? great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren and one step-great grandson. He was preceded in death by two brother, two sisters and a granddaughter.
