Vannice on October 18, 1843, in Montgomery County, Indiana. Susan was born May 15, 1821, in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Kentucky, the daughter of John and Alice Letitia "Letty" (Canine) Vannice. John and Susan had the following known children: 1. Henry H. McCrea (1845-1921) Susan died December 15, 1846, in Indiana. McCrea (1845-1921) Susan died December 15, 1846, in Indiana. She was buried in the Shannondale Cemetery in Shannondale, Montgomery County, Indiana. John then married Delilah "Delia" Wilson about 1846 in Montgomery County, Indiana. Delia was born about 1822 in Kentucky. John and Delia had the following known children: 2. Francis Marion McCrea (1849-1936) 3. Susan Ann (McCrea) Johnson (1854-1938) Delia died January 22, 1856, in Iowa. John married his third wife; Emily Gates in 1857, in Mahaska County, Iowa. Emily was born about 1813 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Victor and Mary (Haddock) Gates. John and Emily did not have any known children together. In the 1870 Censes, Emily was living in the household of Mathias and Cinthia Gales in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky. Her occupation was listed as "Keeping House". Emily died before 1907 in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky. John married his fourth wife; Lucy W. (nee unknown) Myers on August 6, 1868, in Monroe County, Iowa. Lucy was born about 1827 in Ohio. In 1885. She had a daughter Francis A. "Fannie" Myers born the same year as John's daughter Susan. John and Lucy were living in Plattsmouth, Cass County, Nebraska. John's occupation in the Nebraska State Census was listed as Dentist. John died February 19, 1901, in St Louis City, Missouri. The following was transcribed from the Semi-Weekly News-Herald, Plattsmouth, Nebraska, 22 Feb 1901, page 4: Remains are Interred. The remains of Dr. McCrea arrived from St. Louis over the Missouri Pacific this morning for burial, and funeral services were held at 9 o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal church, conducted by Rev. Asa Sleeth and Rev. J. T. Baird. Quite a number of old-time friends of the deceased followed the remains to Oak Hill cemetery, where interment was made. J. C. Coleman, R. Peterson, J. D. Tutt and C. D. Cummins acted as pall bearers. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Johnson and son of St. Louis accompanied the remains to Plattsmouth, Mrs. Johnson being a daughter of the deceased.
