Earl, the son of Walter Z. and Grace Mae (Hudnet) Marsh, was born December 27, 1906 at villisca. On June 14, 1927 he was united in marriage at Red Oak, Iowa to Bernice Evelyn Larson. This marriage was blessed with one daughter, Elizabeth (Betty). Earl spent most of his entire life in Villisca graduating from Villisca High School in 1927. He served in the U.S. Army during World War 11 at which time he saw active duty in France and Germany with the 549th Field Artillery Battalion Headquarters Ballery. He was in business for over 50 years, involved in many civic affairs and served on many boards and committees. He had several businesses over the years, but was best known for Marsh Transfer and Marsh Motors. He was in partnership in farming with his son-in-law, Marvin Ward and later his grandson, Gregory Ward. He retired in 1975 but continued hiss farming partnership until his grandson died in 1986. Earl was a member of the Villisca United Methodist Church, Iroquois Masonic Lodge #590, a life member of the VFW Post #8998 and American Legion Post #251. Earl enjoyed collecting coins, car decanters, and other collectibles. Family times with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special times for him. When he could no longer maintain his home, he moved to the Good Samaritan Center in 1991 where he could be with other friends and receive loving care. When the chains and bonds of life became to difficult to bear, God set him free and took him “home.” He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bernice in 1982; four brothers, three infant sisters, and grandson, Gregory Ward. Survivors include his daughter and husband, Marvin L Ward, granddaughter, Jan D. Barr and husband William of Villisca, grandson Out Ward of Phoenix, Arizona, granddaughter-in-law, Joan Ward Nelson and husband Randy of Villisca, Great grandchildren, Shane Ward and wife Kara of Kansas City, Missouri, Ranea Ward and Melissa Ward, both of Creston, Iowa; Brice Blank of Colorado and Brian Blank of Villisca. Also sisters-in-law, Lillie Marsh of McCroy, Arkansas, Reva Marsh and Charlotte Larson, both of Villisca, brothers-in-law, Neil Means of Villisca, and Gerald Larson and wife Be a of Red Oak.
