Two young farmers of this area were killed instantly at8:10AM Thursday in a country road intersection collision east of Larned. Dead are David Crane, 26, who farmed east of here and who was a native of Pawnee County and Walter Hudson, 27, Macksville. Scene of the crash was one mile south of the K19 at the intersection of the Macksville blacktop road and a graveled township highway. There were no witnesses to the collision, but Thorne Compton, farmer living a mile north of the scene, heard the crash and drove to the spot to investigate. Investigating officers found Crane's body thrown clear of his pickup truck, but body of Hudson was wedged into wreckage of his car and it was necessary to use cutting torches before it could be removed. Crane's pickup was eastbound on the gravel road and Hudson was headed north on the blacktop. Skid marks indicated both drivers set brakes to avoid the crash but vehicles tangled in the center of the intersection. Front wheels of the pickup broke loose from the chassis and rolled 20 feet from the rest of the wreckage which was 80 feet from the point of impact. Motor of the truck was ripped out and lay, half-buried in the nearby wheat field. Wrist watches of both victims had stopped at 8:10AM. Crane was a graduate of Larned High School and lifelong resident of Pawnee County. He is survived by the widow, Nancy; father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Crane, Larned; a brother, Albert, RFD 2, Larned and a sister, Donna, Larned. Hudson was born September 19, 1928 at Macksville. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea. Surviving him are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hudson, Macksville; a grandmother, Mrs. Lola Hudson, Macksville; three brothers, Bill, Macksville; Carl and Eldon, both in military services; a grandfather, Tom Davidson, Sedan. Funeral services for Hudson will be at 2PM Saturday in the Macksville Christian Church with burial in Farmington Cemetery near Macksville.
