Moss was born October 1, 1888, near Edgar, Neb., to Mark and Victoria Short Hattan. She passed away Friday, August 13, 1976, at the Fillmore County hospital in Geneva at the age of 87 years, 10 months, 12 days. She was the last surviving member of a family of seven children and had the privilege of living many years more than her three sisters and three brothers, plus nieces and nephews. She attended the Edgar public schools. February 9, 1910, she was united in marriage to Charles T.C. Moss of Angus, Neb., at Nelson, Neb., making the trip by horse and buggy. To this union were born two children, a daughter, Lena (Mrs. Ray Autrey) of Grand Island, Neb., and Clyde Moss of Kimball, Neb. As Mr. Moss was employed on the railroad, they spent the first year of their marriage at Angus. March 1, 1911, they moved to Geneva, where they have resided for 65 year, 60 of which were spent in their present home. Mrs. Moss was a member of the Geneva United Methodist church, where she attended regularly until her health began to fail. Many times she expressed a desire to once again attend church. She was also a member of Ada circle of United Methodist Women and the Sociables. She was the last charter member of the Jolly Neighbor club, who in 1962, gave her a 50th anniversary party and presented an engraved gold heart to her. Mrs. Moss was a loving and devoted wife and mother, living a very simple and quiet life, always enjoying her home, family and friends. She and her husband had the rare privilege of celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary last February. The 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries were special occasions. They also had the privilege of attending high school graduation exercises for all of their grandchildren and baptismal services for their two great-grandchildren. In addition to her faithful and devoted husband and her two children, she is survived by a son-in-law, Ray Autrey of Grand Island, and a daughter-in-law Avona Moss of Kimball; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, both of whom she dearly adored. Other survivors include a niece, and a sister-in-law, both of Edgar; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 16, at the Farmer & Son funeral home. Rev. H. Paul Smith, pastor of the Geneva United Methodist church, officiated. Mrs. Clarence Najmon, accompanied by Mrs. Norval Lomax, sang “How Great Thou Art,” “Ivory Palaces” and “In the Garden”. Pallbearers were David Autrey, Robert Moss, Roger Niemann and Cam Ross, grandsons, and Joseph Bender, Edward Franzen, Paul Shaner and William Itzen of Lincoln. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
