Aug. 6, 1943- Page 1 Etta Irene Hattan Etta Irene Hattan, daughter of Mark and Victoria Hattan, was born January 15, 1886, in Nuckolls County, near Edgar, Nebraska, and passed away from this life July 30, 1943, at the age of 57 years, 6 months and 15 days. She attended the Edgar Public School graduating in 1903. Later she attended and graduated from Peru State Teachers College and for almost 20 years was one of Nebraska's successful school teachers. She was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Church of Christ, regularly attending Bible school and church as long as her heath permitted. She had been in failing health for two years and the past four months in a very critical condition, until she passed away at the home of her sister, Edna, of Geneva where she was being cared for. Etta was one of a family of seven children. Her father, mother, a brother, Arthur, and a sister, Mrs. Ina Graham, having preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing two sisters, Mrs. Cora Powell of Edgar and Mrs. Chas. Moss of Geneva, two brothers, Sanford of Edgar and Ernest of Long Beach, California, several nieces and nephews, besides a host of friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, August 1, 1943, at 2:00 p.m., at the McGhie Funeral Home in Edgar, with Roy A. Coop and Dale A. Williamson in charge. Mrs. F. W. Hockman and Mrs. Walter Jacobsen sang, "City of Dreams" and "No Tears in Paradise." Mrs. Roy Cline was at the piano. Pallbearers were: A. A. Recht, Murray Nisely, Truman Gunn, Wade Babers, Roy Cline and Newt Gunn. Mrs. Newt Gunn and Mrs. J. W. Cassell were in charge of the flowers. Interment was made in the Edgar Cemetery.
