HOFMANN Edward F. Hofmann, the son of Charles and Hannah Hofmann, was born at Bern, Kans., May 2, 1916, and departed this life August 11, 1965, at the age of 49 years, 3 months and 9 days. His boyhood days were spent at Bern where he attended the local school. During World War II he served in the United States Infantry in the European theater of the war. He was an active member of the American Legion Post No. 39 and was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign War. On September 9, 1943, he was united in marriage to Ella Marie Rokey. To this union were born three children, Sharon, Ronald and Richard. Mr. Hofmann operated service stations in and near DuBois, and in later years he had a tank truck business to deliver gas and oil. He is survived by his wife, Ella; his three children, Mrs. Harley Pierce, Washington, D. C., Ronald, United States Navy, and Richard of the home in DuBois, Nebr.; four sisters, Mrs. Philipana Fankhauser and Mrs. Stella Grossenbacher, both of Pawnee City, Nebr., Mrs. Irene Roth of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Verda Baumgartner of Omaha, Nebr.; also two brothers, George Hofmann of Bern, and Harry Hofmann of Leavenworth. He was preceded in death by his paretns and one brother, Al. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. August 14, at the E. U. B. Church in DuBois with Rev. Charles P. Grier in charge. Mr. Earl Hightower and Mr. Richard Dawdy of Bern sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross" with Miss Jane Hightower accompanist at the piano. Burial was in the DuBois Cemetery with graveside services conducted by the DuBois American Legion Post No. 39, the Bern American Legion and Pawnee City, V. F. W.
