Description	:	AKRON, Iowa - Edward L. Sand, 84, of Akron, formerly of Starbuck, Minn., and Elk Point, S.D. died Saturday, April 1, 1995 at the Akron Care Center after a long illness. Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point with the Rev. Dan Heath officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Mr. Sand was born June 17, 1910 in Union County, S.D., the son of John and Bertha Stella (Woltman) Sand. He grew up in the Highmore, S.D. area, breaking horses at the Tibbs Ranch at the age of 18. He married Esther Miller March 13, 1936, in Elk Point. The couple farmed between Akron and Elk Point. She died Aug. 17, 1970. He retired in 1973 and moved to Sioux City, He lived in Sioux city for two years and then moved to Starbuck, where he resided at his lakeside home on Lake Minnewaska the last 18 years. He married Julia Bainbridge in 1972 at Le Mars. She preceded him in death. He moved to the Akron Care Center in November 1994. Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Frances and Alan Johnson of Denver, Colo., and Jeanette and Ronald Christensen of Springfield, Mo.; Two sons, LeRoy and his wife, Sharon of Starbuck and John of Akron; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Esther Swanson of Akron, and a brother, Harvey and his wife Violet of Beresford, S.D. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Tony Sand and a sister Genevieve Layton. Pallbearers will be Thad and Leon Sand, Kevin, Brian and Jeff Johnson, David and Kathy Christensen and Keith Swanson. SERVICES - St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point, S.D. - Rev.
