Edward Moore, 84, Civil War veteran, passed away at his home on the West side, Friday evening at 6 o’clock, after an illness lasting several years. Born at Kallen (Called) County Kelkenny, Ireland, he came to the United States with his parents and settled in Valley Falls, R.I. When but 15 he enlisted in the 12th Rhode Island infantry for the Civil War and fought under General Burnside. His regiment was stationed at Washington, D.C., when President Lincoln was shot. In 1868 the report of rich gold strikes in Montana brought him west and he spent two years at Silver, near Helena, then moving to Pioneer. In 1882 he was united in marriage to Olive Weidenfeller, to which union eight children were born, all of whom with their mother, survive: Thomas Moore, Miss Oma Moore, Edward Moore, Robert Moore, Mrs. Edward Estill, Andrew Moore, Mrs. Marshall Brown of Deer Lodge, and Mrs. Richard Hollenback of Gold Creek. All the children were at the bedside when the end came. The pallbearers wee; Tom Hallenback, Fabian Bissonette, Dave Hogan, Max Brown, John Rickerman and Jake Briggeman. Funeral services were conducted from the Catholic church Monday morning at 9 O’clock by Rev. Father T.F. Landy, with internment in the Hillcrest cemetery.
