Description	:	Edward Roberts, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Harriet Wilson Roberts, was born at Henderson, Iowa, Jan. 4, 1874. He passed from this life at the Decatur county hospital, Leon, April 24, 1958, after a long illness. At the time of his death, he was 84 years, 3 months, and 20 days of age. Later he farmed with his father until the time of his... Read More	Edward Roberts, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Harriet Wilson Roberts, was born at Henderson, Iowa, Jan. 4, 1874. He passed from this life at the Decatur county hospital, Leon, April 24, 1958, after a long illness. At the time of his death, he was 84 years, 3 months, and 20 days of age. He was one of a family of 13 children, all of whom have preceded him in death except one sister and one brother. When quite young, he with his parents moved to Douglas, Neb. Later he farmed with his father until the time of his marriage to Sally May Roberts at Thurman, Iowa, Dec. 31, 1895. They started housekeeping on their own farm near Douglas, Neb., and while living on this farm their two oldest children were born. In 1898, the family moved to a farm near Tabor, Iowa, where they resided 17 years. While living there two more children were born. In 1916, they moved to a farm two miles south of Lamoni where their third child, Eugene, died on Thanksgiving day, at the age of 17 as a result of a football injury. The family moved to their late home on North Clark street in the spring of 1918 where Mr. and Mrs. Roberts resided for 40 years. Last November when their son, Paul and his wife, moved into their new home on North Silver street, they moved with them. After moving to Lamoni, he and his wife landscaped their own home and he did similar work for many others in the community. He was a great lover of nature and raised many flowers and shrubs, which he generously shared with others. Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, May; his son Paul; and two daughters, Mrs. Oscar Midgorden of Leon, and Mrs. Wilber Pratt of Lamoni; one sister, Mrs. Frances Hurst of Atwood, Kan., who is at the point of death; one brother, Luke Roberts of Douglas, Neb.; five grandsons: Gene, Kent and Joe Midgorden of Des Moines, Glen Mldgorden of Great Bend, Kan., and Wayne Pratt, who is attending Iowa State college, Ames, Iowa; 10 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
