Description	:	Eugene La Porte, second son of Edward and May Roberts, was born September 9, 1899, near Tabor, Iowa, where with the family, he resided until March of the present year, when they moved to a farm near Lamoni. He passed from this life December 1, 1916, aged 17 years, 2 months, and 22 days. His last illness was brief, covering only seven days. Appendicitis developed unexpectedly in an acute form. Read More	Eugene La Porte, second son of Edward and May Roberts, was born September 9, 1899, near Tabor, Iowa, where with the family, he resided until March of the present year, when they moved to a farm near Lamoni. He passed from this life December 1, 1916, aged 17 years, 2 months, and 22 days. His last illness was brief, covering only seven days. Appendicitis developed unexpectedly in an acute form. On November 30, an operation was performed, in the hope of relief, but after a few hours, the young life took its flight to a land where suffering is no more. There survive the father and mother, one brother, Edward Paul, two sisters, Vera Berlye and Elizabeth Eleanor, with other relatives and many friends to mourn his early departure. A large concourse of people attended the services at the Saints' Church, Sunday morning at 10:30. Elder R. J. Lambert was in charge. The sermon by Elder J. F. Garver. Eugene was prior to his illness attending the Lamoni High School. The music was by high school pupils, and fellow pupils acted as pall bearers. At the church and the cemetery, the entire high school stood reverently at either side while the casket passed between the long lines of grieving young people. Reservations were made at the church for the high school pupils and teachers, who followed the family and were seated in a body. This family, though only recently coming into our midst, has gained the respect of all. Eugene was a general favorite at school and among the young people. The community is deeply touched by his early passing and the sympathy extended to the family is genuine and shared by all. While it pains us to chronicle the passing of so young and so promising, a life yet with the family we may ever cherish the memory of a dutiful son and a clean and noble companion and friend.
