Elaine Frieda Alice Groth was born on January 28, 1935 in Elma,IA to Harry John Carl and Wilhelmina (Lubbert) Groth. She attended local school and graduated from Riceville High School. She was united in Marriage to Gerald Roy "Bud" Eschweiler on August 5, 1953 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Maple Leaf, IA. Elaine farmed with her husband and was the secretary to the superintendent of Riceville Schools and secretary for the Riceville School Board for over thirty years. Elaine enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, quilting, playing cards, and gambling trips. Survivors include her three sons, Gregg and his wife Judy of Tripoli, IA; Doug and his wife Vicky of Waverly, IA; Jerry and his wife Melissa of Crystal Lake, IL; eight grandchildren, Jenny (Billy) Rover, Kim (Josh) Shonka, Matt Eschweiler, Katie (Dustin) Mallie, Kristin Eschweiler (Shaun Ritchie), Christopher Eschweiler, Andrew Eschweiler and Michael Eschweiler. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren, Ashtyn, Grace, Colie, Jack, Ryin, Nora, Peyton and Taylor; sisters-in-law: Norma Groth of Saratoga, IA, Jane Groth of Riceville, IA Erma Jean Lowe of New Hampton, IA, and Lou Ann Simon of Stacyville, IA. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband "Bud" in 1998, and two brothers Eldon and Merle. Services 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 22 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, both in Riceville. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 21 at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
