Read More	DEATH SUMMONS PIONEER UNION COUNTY WOMAN Mrs. Eleanora Eickson Was Resident Of Akron For Several Years Mrs. Eleanora Erickson (nee Gassman) was born July 14, 1869, in Wetergotland, Sweden. She came to America in May, 1883, in company with her mother, brother and sister. Her father, S.J. Gassman, had eleven years before emigrated to the United States and had taken up a homestead in Charles Mix County, S.D., where the family settled down and experienced the hardships of every other settlers in a new country. June 3, 1893, she was united in marriage with L.E. Erickson, of Charles Mix County and to their union three children were born: Signe Maria, born in 1894, died February 14, 1914 in Union County, S.D., where her parents moved in 1896; Alve, now residing on the old home place, and Elsie, now Mrs. Albert Anderson, of Union County. In 1922, Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Erickson moved to Akron, where Mr. Erickson, after a long illness, died in 1932. Mrs. Erickson continued to live in her Akron home until March 1, this year. After selling her home, she moved out to the farm to find a home with her son, Alve, and his family, where she, after a week's illness, peacefully slept away July 3, 1940, 70 years, 11 months and 20 days of age, honored and respected by all for useful life and many good deeds. Her funeral was held in the Union Creek Church, with burial in the family lot in Union Creek cemetery, Friday afternoon, July 5. Student Edgar Anderson preached the sermon and had the commitment at the grave. Grant Gassman, Mrs. Lee Stoutenburg and Kenneth Shoulberg, with Mrs. H. Shoulberg as accompanist, furnished the singing. The pallbearers were H. Shoulberg, S.W. Fredell, Wendell Petry, Bertil Shoulberg, Lee Stoutenburg and Grant Gassman. Many old friends, former neighbors and relative were present, and Earl Ross, funeral director, was in charge. Besides her son, Alve, and daughter, Elsie Anderson, are four grandchildren, Robert and Raymond, sons of Alve and Anna Erickson, and Lois and Bernice, daughters of Albert and Elsie Anderson, and a sister, Albertina Gassman, of Omaha, Nebr.
