At the age of 18 he came to this country and settled down with his parents in Sioux Valley, Union county, S.D. Read More	Ernest Gassman was born September 10, 1864, in the parish of Bjorkang, Sweden. At the age of 18 he came to this country and settled down with his parents in Sioux Valley, Union county, S.D. Excepting eight years, when he resided in Minnesota, this locality has been his home, for ten years he carried mail on a rural route from the Akron post office. He has also worked at the carpenter's trade and has been a farmer. For the past few years he has been a sufferer from consumption, which seems to have come on as the result of a severe attack of pneumonia in 1905. One year he sought relief from his sickness in the Danish Sanitarium for Consumptives at Brush, Colo. About a year ago he returned home to his parents Mr. and Mrs. S.J. Gassman and has been cared for by his sister, Deaconess Albertine. He was patient in his sufferings, and was resigned to the will of God, for he had found grace and peace in his Savior. When well he took an active part in church work, having been Sunday school superintendent of the Akron Baptist church, to which he for eight or ten years belonged. At about midnight, between the 3rd and 4th of April, 1912, the summons came. At his demise he was 47 years, 6 months and 24 days old. The funeral was held from the home and the Union Creek Lutheran church, the pastor, Rev. C.H. Nelson, officiating, assisted by Rev. Arlander, of Big Springs. Those who mourn his departure are, besides his aged parents, two sisters, Ellen and Albertine, one brother, Henning, other relatives and a host of friends. They mourn not as they who have no hope, for their son and brother is at Home. Peace to his memory!
