He was born in Huntingdon county, Pennsylvania, June 19th, 1816, aged 84 years, 6 months and 3 days. Read More	Note: below is the full text, verbatim, of this obituary, transcribed by Richard K Thompson: Jefferson County Republican Friday, December 28, 1900 Pg. 4 Col. 4 Obituaries Elijah Edwards died at his home in this city, Dec. 22d, 1900. He was born in Huntingdon county, Pennsylvania, June 19th, 1816, aged 84 years, 6 months and 3 days. In 1850 he came to Iowa, this county, and from that time up to 1876 his home was in Salina, where he ran a hotel in connection with his tailor shop and was also postmaster at that place for many years. After selling his property in Salina he moved to Pleasant Plain, where he bought a hotel and ran it up to the year of 1881, when he moved to Allerton and there engaged in the hotel business for several years, when he moved to this city. He was twice married, the first time he married Mary Ann Makin, June 18th, 1840, who died May 22d, 1853, and in October 30th, 1853, he again married Sarah J. Lynn, who survives him. He was a happy man, always seeming contented with his surroundings. He was a member of the M. E. church for many years. He was the last member of a family of 13 children, two formerly lived in this county, William H. and Robert Edwards. One died in the county and the other in Wayne county. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. I. O. Kemble, Monday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock.
