Kiger of Glendora, Calif. ------- Full text obituary - Fairfield Daily Journal Monday, December 16, 1912 MRS. MOSES KIGER CALLED BY DEATH Mrs. Moses KIGER, wife of Stewart KIGER (sic. Moses KIGER was his more commonly used name) of the County Home, passed away Sunday morning at 12:05 o'clock with an illness extending over a period of a couple of years of diabetis. Her conditon became serious about six weeks ago and the end has been slowly approaching during that time. She was surrounded by all of her family when the final summons came. Mrs. KIGER was a woman greatly beloved by all with whom she came in contact. She had an unusually happy disposition and her life and character reflected itself upon the lives of those about her. She had presided over the household of the County Home for the past sixteen years and was regarded as a mother by the unfortunate people who are gathered there. She was greatly beloved by every one of them and there is genuine mourning at County Home at this time. Eliza Ann HUNTER-KIGER was born October 16, 1848, near Springfield, Ohio, and there grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage to Moses KIGER in that city December 6th, 1866. To them were born five children, all of whom with their father survive. They are Louis H. KIGER and O.W. (sic. Orla Webster) of Glasgow, Mrs. John LIMING and Mrs. Emery CLINKENBEARD (sic. a/k/a CLINKINBEARD)of Fairfield, and Noble I. KIGER of Glendora, California. Mr. and Mrs. KIGER came to Iowa twenty-eight years ago and located near Glasgow in Jefferson county. About twenty years ago they moved to this city and resided here for a time and in 1896 they were appointed ot oversee the County Home. So well have affairs there been managed by Mr. and Mrs. KIGER that they have been retained all these years, their work has been expecially commended by the members of the Board of Supervisors repeatedly. By special request of Mrs. KIGER the last services will be held in the first Methodist church in this ctiy and will occur Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. Dr. Thomas Osborn will conduct the service and the interment will be made in Evergreen cemetery. * Transcribed for genealogy purposes. I am not directly related to the KIGER family member(s) mentioned, but they are extremely distantly connected to my Jefferson County ancestral roots.
