Read More	Fairfield Daily Ledger Monday April 16, 1923 MOSES KIGER DIES MOURNED BY MANY Funeral Services To Be Held At The Christian Church Wednesday There is sadness at the County Home for Moses KIGER, who had been steward of the home for the past seventeen years retiring from that position five years ago on account of his advanced age, and who was idolized by the inmates, has passed away. Six weeks ago Mr. KIGER, who made his home in this city, went to the home of his daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. John M. LIMING, who are now the steward and stewardess of the County Home, where all that was possible was done for him in his last illness, all his children being with him when the end came. No steward at the County Home has enjoyed the confidence and affection of the inmates to the extent accorded to Moses KIGER. To them he was endearingly known as "Grandpa," "Daddy", "Pappy", and the like for his great heart found expression in constant acts of kindness to these unfortunates and he was their friend in the truest sense. In his seventeen years of stewardship he won the confidence of the people of the county by his excellent management of the institution, and he won the loyalty of the inmates by his thoughtful care of them. Some of the older inmates regard his loss as irreparable and are inconsolable in their grief. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at two oclock at the Christian church. Members of the G.A.R., the W.R.C., and the Daughters of Veterans will attend in a body, this being a request made by Mr. KIGER, who was strongly attached to these organizations by reason of his army service. Rev. Thomas Osborn, pastor of the Methodist church at Centerville, and formerly pastor here, will conduct the service. One son, five grandchildren and two son-in-laws will serve as pall bearers: Noble I. KIGER, Moses KIGER,Jr., Harry W. KIGER, Guy C. KIGER, Glen W. KIGER, Clifford E. KIGER, John LIMING and Emry CLINKENBEARD. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery which his wife lies. Moses KIGER was born November 26, 1843 at Springfield, Ohio, the son of Isaac and Mary Ann KIGER. He enlisted in the Union army in Co. H (sic. B ?) of the Eighty-sixth Ohio infantry on June 4, 1862, and was discharged in the following September at Camp Delaware, Delaware, O. On November 7, 1863 he reenlisted in the Seventeenth Ohio Independent (sic. can't read the microfilm image clearly, "Hg??") artillery and served until he was mustered out August 16, 1865 at Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio. On Dec. 6, 1866 Mr. KIGER was married to Miss Eliza A. HUNTER, and engaged in farming until his removal to Iowa. Of the five children born to Mr. and Mrs. KIGER all but one are living, Lewis, the elder, having died in 1913. Mrs. KIGER passed away in December, 1912. The children living are, Mrs. John M. LIMING, Orla Webster, living near Glasgow, Noble I. of Fairfield, and Mrs. Emery CLINKENBEARD of Chicago. Mr. KIGER came to Iowa in 1881 settling near Glasgow and engaging in farming. Several years later he removed to Fairfield where he resided for three years before accepting the postition as steward at the County Home, where he remained for seventeen years. For the last five years he has made his home with the James E. TURNER family in Fairfield so that he might enjoy the companionship of his old army comrades. *Transcribed for genealogy purposes.
