Elizabeth was born and raised in Beatrice and raised her family there. She resided there until 2008. She married Leon Oscar Decker on May 17, 1950. They were blessed with five daughters. Elizabeth Decker, 90, of Columbia, Mo., died Nov. 5, 2016 at Columbia Manor in Columbia, Mo. Left with memories are her husband of 66 years; five daughters, Carol (Harry) Miller, Connie Joy (Robert) Pelley, Mary (John) Hutchison, Shirley (Joseph) Decker, and Dara Debra (Gregory) Vaughn, fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins; brother Edward (Betty) Andreas and two sisters-in-law, Lois Andreas and Esther Andreas. She was preceded in death by her sister Katherine Boehr and brothers John Andreas, William "Bill" Andreas and Paul Andreas. A memorial service is planned at the Holiday Inn Express, Beatrice, on Dec. 10, 2016 from 5 pm-9 pm. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Above from obituary published in the Daily Sun, Beatrice, Nebraska. Below are memories from a niece. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Elizabeth and her husband, Leon Decker, lived for a time out in the country by Blue Springs, Nebraska. They kindly welcomed my sister and I over when our mother was in the hospital for several days with a birth (hospitals did that in those days). It was the first time we lived in a house without electricity, and I can still remember the warm light of the kerosene lamp, but being a little scared when Aunt Elizabeth wished us a good night, blew out the lamp, and went downstairs. Later, Elizabeth and Leon moved to Beatrice, Nebraska, and moved a house onto some land just east of the stone house where Elizabeth grew up. They dug a basement first, finishing it with concrete block, and when the basement was finished, and the house was moved on, I and my siblings spent many happy days over at Elizabeth and Leons. Another memory is helping her tie a quilt down in that new basement--her quilting frame was set up, and she was tying it with square knots of yarn so the quilt wouldn't come loose from the batting when wash day arrived. She was a school teacher, and taught in a country school between Beatrice and Lincoln, Nebraska. It was fun to go to the Christmas program she and the schoolchildren put on one year. She was born to Magdalene (Hirschler) and John Paul (J.P.) Andreas in Beatrice, Nebraska. In the early years they all went to the Mennonite church in town, but later, she, her husband, several of her siblings, and her parents joined a different church, the World-wide Church started by Herbert W. Armstrong. This meant traveling many miles each week to worship at the nearest church, and sometimes traveling as far as Wichita, Kansas. It also meant no more Christmas, no more Jello (made from pig's hooves--Knox Gelatin was okay because it had bovine origin), no more birthday parties, and many discussions when extended family got together. But the family stayed together. One year my sister and I traveled with Uncle Leon and Aunt Elizabeth and Grandma Andreas in a car from Beatrice to the big arena in Chicago, Illinois to hear Mr. Herbert Armstrong preach. We went on from there to celebrate my Uncle Paul's wedding to Aunt Esther. Elizabeth was very close to my mother, Kay Boehr, and she sorrowed when Kay passed away in June, 2016. When her brother, Paul Andreas, passed away a few months later, that, too was a blow. Elizabeth (Andreas) Decker passed away during the night, with her husband and children around her. A daughter wrote: "Mother finished her race last night. She would have been 91 on the 28th of this month. She died peacefully with her husband and family at her side. She was a wonderful mother and we all miss her!"
