Description	:	Elizabeth L. “Betty” Buehler, 94, of Hiawatha, died Saturday, April 29, 2017, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital. She previously had been a resident of Vintage Park Assisted Living and Maple Heights Nursing Home. Read More	Elizabeth L. “Betty” Buehler, 94, of Hiawatha, died Saturday, April 29, 2017, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital. She previously had been a resident of Vintage Park Assisted Living and Maple Heights Nursing Home. Betty, was how she was known to family and friends, was born at Pittsburg, Kansas, December 16, 1922, one of four children born to J.L. and Helen Leuze Lehnherr and was raised in Towanda, KS where she graduated high school in 1940. Betty then attended El Dorado Junior College for a year and stated “it was a waste of time, but lots of fun.” Upon moving to Hiawatha, she worked for Dr Miller, a dentist in Hiawatha, for 17 years as the receptionist where she became acquainted with many people. She later worked part-time at the funeral home in Hiawatha for over 25 years. Betty was a VERY busy person: a sixty plus year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hiawatha where she sang in the Choir. She also attended the Bethany Church of Christ on occasion with her daughter and son in law. She also played in several bridge clubs, and was dedicated to making sure “Buehler’s Pond” was kept immaculate, which was used for weddings, family celebrations and ‘just for fun.’ She worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita during World War II and (“ where I met the love of my life Harlan Buehler” (“great story”). They were married in Wichita, October 30, 1943. They moved to Hiawatha and lived on a farm just west of town where they raised their three daughters. He died November 3, 1991. Soon after his death, Betty moved to town to make her home. Survivors include three daughters: Barbara Mitchell (Bob) Manassas, VA, Mary Ann Edds (Bill) of Topeka, KS, Janet Mendez (Mike) of Omaha, NE; brother Robert Lehnherr of Kent, Washington; sister Dorothy Zimbelman of Burlington, CO; brother in law Charles Wallace of Pueblo, CO; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a sister Barbara Wallace. A Celebration of Betty’s life is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hiawatha, with Reverend Nancy Tuma and Reverend Shane Spangler officiating. Interment will follow at Hiawatha Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 until 1 p.m. just prior to service at the Church. Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha, is in charge of arrangements, where friends may call until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
