Contributor: j.lynn (47147578) Mellette County Pioneer, Wood, SD, 11 May 1923, page 1: "Mrs. Willis H. Bice is Dead. A message was received in Wood last Monday announcing the death of Mrs. Willis H. Bice, which occurred at the Winner hospital at about three o'clock that day. Mrs. Bice had been sick for some time and was taken to the hospital at Winner about two weeks ago, where everything possible was done for her. Last Friday the Editor was in Winner, and at that time she reported to be getting better, but Sunday she took a turn for the worse, and on Monday she passed away peacefully. Ella Adaline Jordan was born on the Rosebud reservation, April 17, 1897, and had lived here practically all her life. She was the youngest daughter of Col. C.P,. Jordan of Orchard Ranch, south of Wood. Early in life she united with the Episcopal church and had ever been a faithful and consistent member of that organization. On November 25, 1916, she was united in marriage to Willis H. Bice, and to this union five children were born, three of whom survive her, and two died in infancy. The surviving children are Willis Arthur, aged five years; Edward Carl, aged four, and Mamie Julia, aged two years. The deceased also leaves a loving husband, an aged father, Col. C.P. Jordan, and two brothers, Will Jordan of Rosebud and Everett Jordan of Wood, and one sister, Mrs. Alex Bordeaux, Jr. of White River to mourn her death. Beloved by all who knew her, a true friend, a loving wife, a devoted daughter and sister, she will be mourned sincerely and deeply by all who knew hew. The large attendance at the funeral Wednesday afternoon, which was held at the Episcopal church just south of Wood, and conducted by Rev. Frazier of the Episcopal church of Winner, the many floral tributes of friends, and the tears of sorrowing friends and kindred, spoke most eloquently of their deep affection. They paid their last tribute of respect at her bier, and loving hands laid her to rest in the Episcopal cemetery at Wood, the silent city of the dead. Tears were freely shed; tears of anguish for her whose life had ended so young; tears of sorrow for a bereaved husband; tears of pity for the orphaned children; tears of sympathy for the father, brothers and sister; yea, 'tears for the living and tears for the dead.'
