He died at the Veterans Hospital, Lincoln, Tuesday, December 5, 1972, attaining the age of 75 years, 6 months and 16 days. Read More	CHURCHILL, ELMER C.—Elmer C., son of Walter and Gepha Churchill, was born at Geneva, Neb., May 19, 1897. He died at the Veterans Hospital, Lincoln, Tuesday, December 5, 1972, attaining the age of 75 years, 6 months and 16 days. He attended rural schools near Geneva and also three and one-half years of high school at Geneva. Elmer enlisted in World War I at Ft. William Henry Harrison at Great Falls, Mont., July 29, 1917. He served with Company B 116th Engineers, as a hand grenade instructor in overseas duty. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal March 13, 1919. June 24, 1923, he was married to Miss Mina Marvin. To them were born four sons, John, twins Richard and Raymond, and Glenn. On returning home from service he became an expert carpenter and finisher, living at Geneva 12 years. The past 38 years he has been a resident of Lincoln. At Lincoln he did the first carpenter work on the new State Capitol building. He constructed the foundation for the dome of our Capitol building which supports the famous statue, “The Sower.” Elmer also helped construct the industrial building, the Capitol hotel and the University stadium. Elmer loved music, which he expressed as a member of the Geneva and Lincoln Bugle and Drum Corps. He was a lifelong member of the Geneva Evangelical United Brethren church which is now the United Methodist church. He held membership in the VFW Post No. 3606, in East Lincoln Masonic Lodge No. 210. He was a member of the former Carpenter’s Union, a member of the Veterans of World War I Barracks No. 165. He is survived by his wife Mina, 2428 S. 23rd Street, Lincoln; four sons, John of Salem, Ore., Richard of Colorado Springs, Col., Raymond E. of Aurora, Ill., and Glenn of Lincoln; four brothers, Harvey and Lindell of Ft. Collins, Col., Donald of Bemidji, Minn., and Wayne of Geneva, Mrs. Elsie Clinkenbeard of Akron, O., and Mrs. Marguerite Gustier of Algona, Ia.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, also many nephews and nieces. Elmer’s passing was the first death in this family of 10 children. Funeral services were held at 1 p. m. Saturday, December 9, at the Umberger-Sheaff Funeral Parlor in Lincoln, with Elmer’s friend, Rev. John W. Ekwall, officiating. A large number of World War I Veterans were in attendance.
