(Mountford) McCartney, was born on his parents home place, the rural area north of Lebanon, Kansas on September 15, 1902. He departed this life on Wednesday, January 21, 1987 at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud, Ne. at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 6 days. ..Elmer received his education attending the Mt. Upp. In November of 1945, they took Don D. Shannon into their home at twelve years of age. They made their home together in the Duckerville community, where they farmed and raised cattle until moving to Red Cloud in 1953. In Red Cloud he owned and drove a cattle truck until hes failing health required him to retire in 1980. ..Mary and Elmer attended the Wesleyan Church, where he was faithful and was a Sunday School teacher. ..Elmer's wife, Mary care for him as long as possible before he entered the Sprague Nursing Home and then later the Webster County Community Hosptal. ..Elmer and Mary were privileged to celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary on December 20, 1984 with their family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary on October 16, 1985; and infant son, Harold Dewayne; and three brothers, Charles Edward in infancy and Ralph and George McCartney. ..Left to treasure his memory are one brother, Paul G. McCartney and wife, Melva of Red Cloud; two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Stones and husband, George of Lebanon, Kansas, and Mrs. Ethel Blomenkamp and husband, Clarence of Hastings, Ne.; their foster son, Don Shannon and wife, Lois of Lebanon, Oregon, and their children, Harold, Becky and DeAnn. several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, all who realize that our loss is Heaven's gain. ..Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 1987 from the Wesleyan Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Roy Lawton officiating. ..Norris Maydew sang "God Will Take Care of You" and "In The Sweet By and By" accompanied by Mrs. Vicki Lawton, organist. ..The casket bearers were Dennis McCartney, Gary McCartney, Allen McCartney, Walter Keever, Bob McCartney and Darrel McCartney.
