Description	:	Emil Denver Tharaldson was born 15 July 1886 in Laketown Twp., Barnes Co., ND on his fathers homestead. Parents are Daniel Tharaldson and Ingnora Bertine Ovesdatter Lie, both of Beitstad, Namsos, Nord Trondelag, Norway. Daniel died in 1903 and Ingnora in 1902, leaving a 17 year old Emil as the man of the house to rear his two sisters, Lula, age 16 and Ida age 11. Read More	Emil Denver Tharaldson was born 15 July 1886 in Laketown Twp., Barnes Co., ND on his fathers homestead. Parents are Daniel Tharaldson and Ingnora Bertine Ovesdatter Lie, both of Beitstad, Namsos, Nord Trondelag, Norway. Daniel died in 1903 and Ingnora in 1902, leaving a 17 year old Emil as the man of the house to rear his two sisters, Lula, age 16 and Ida age 11. In 1909, Daniels homestead in Laketown Twp., Barnes Co., ND, was divided equally amongst the 3 children. Two other baby boys were born before Emil and are buried on the homestead, having died in their youth. Emil never got a chance to graduate from High School, since his parents died and left him, as a teenager, to rear his sisters. He served in the Army in France in WW I, in the Medical Corps. He was a PFC in the 41st Ambulance Co. Emil built a house for himself on this land and had the great misfortune to be in it when a tornado hit it in 1916 and demolished the house. Emil was severely injured in the storm, as were others in the area. Many other farms and the Laketown School were damaged as well. It hit early in the morning on 25 May, a Thursday. Emil was carried with the house when it left its foundation, tossed and thrown all over, and he and the house landed in the debris when it finally came to rest. Emil had to build another house. Emil married Emma Christensen on 1 Jan 1920, she being the daughter of Hans & Marie (Mathistad) Christensen. Emil was 8 years older than Emma. They had a Lutheran Ceremony performed by Rev. Svenningson on her parents farm, Emil was 33, Emma 25. They had nine children, a set of twins were stillborn in the 1930s, or there would have been 11. Emil died on 12 May 1954 in Fargo, Cass Co. ND, having spent the rest of his life, after the Army, as a farmer. Emil was a charter member of the Dazey, ND American Legion, Post #149, which was disbanded in 1930 because of the depression. It was started again in 1946 as an active unit. Emils sons, Howard and Gordon were also charter members until their deaths. Emil also belonged to the I.O.O. F. When Emil died, his oldest son Howard worked the farm until 1958. Emil died after pnuemonia set in, along with kidney failure after surgery for gall stones, he only had one kidney. Emil was age 67 yrs. 10 mos.old when he died. He and Emma had been married for 34 years. Emil was survived by his wife Emma, children: Howard Dumont (Doris) Tharaldson of Dazey, ND (later Portland, Oregon), Russell Lyle (June) Tharaldson of St. Paul, MN, Morris Irl (AnnaBelle) Tharaldson of Dazey, ND,Gordon Willard (Delores) Tharaldson of Minneapolis, MN, (later of Mesa, AZ), Phyllis Elaine (Edmund) Quick of Dazey, ND, James Millard (Carol) Tharaldson of Mishawaka, IN, Marilyn Mae (James) Dahl of Dazey, ND, Robert LeRoy (Geri) Tharaldson of New Brighton, MN, and Richard Charles (Margaret 'Peggy') Tharaldson of So. St. Paul, MN; also sisters, Lula (Mike) Martinson of Dazey, ND, (later of Portland, OR), and Ida (Haaken) Olson of Carrington, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin daughters.
