He had been in failing health for the past year but his condition did not become serious until three weeks ago. He was taken to the hospital at that time. Death was due to complications resulting from senility. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning from St. Louis church, northwest of Atchison, with burial in the St. Louis cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock Friday evening at the home, three miles north of Shannon. The body will be removed from the Stanton & Stanton mortuary to the residence Friday morning. As a young man Mr. Scherer worked as a farm hand. He then rented and later purchased his farm north of Shannon. He spent the remainder of his life on the farm. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Scherer, early pioneers in Atchison county. Emil Scherer was born September 9, 1862, on a farm five miles north of Atchison. He was the last survivor of five brothers. September 10, 1889, Mr. Scherer was united in marriage to Miss Annie Roloff. Ten children were born to the the union and all are living. As a farmer and a man Mr. Scherer was respected by his neighbors in the Good Intent community and everyone with whom he had dealings. He was a splendid citizen in every respect and an excellent family man. He was a member of the St. Louis church. Surviving are his widow; the following children, Bert Scherer of the home, James, Charles, Cornelius and George all of Good Intent, Emil Scherer jr., of Effingham. Theodore Scherer of Nortonville, Robert Scherer of Gardner, Mrs. William Kuhn of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. O. C. Petrs of Los Angeles, Calif. and 11 grandchildren.
