Her husband died about ten years ago and a daughter, Matilda died in infancy. She is survived by two daughters, Miss Emma Pechan of this place and Mrs. Will Sernett of Rolfe and one son, Ed of Pocahontas, also two brothers, H. J. Wotapek of Des Moines and Mike of Illinois, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Pechan Here Thursday Funeral services were held Thursday morning at SS. Peter's and Paul's church for Mrs. Emma Pechan, whose death was mentioned in last week's issue. She died Monday, Sept. 22 at Mercy hospital, Ft. Dodge of pneumonia following a year of ill health. Rev. Fr. J. G. Schissel was celebrant of the requiem Mass. Pallbearers were Chas. Cihlar, George Kopriva, Joe Hudek, James Shors, Joe Bartosh and Frank O'Brien. Emma Barbara Pehan was born in New Prague, Austria, Dec. 4, 1864, to Joseph and Barbara Wotapek. At the age of 3 years she came to America with her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters and they located at Green Bay, Wisc. Later they moved to Highland where she lived until her marriage on Jan. 25, 1886, to Joseph Pechan. They came to Iowa and resided on a farm near Pomeroy for four years after which they purchased 80 acres in Roosevelt township from the government. Here they established their home and reared their family of three children. Mr. and Mrs. Pechan retired after living on their farm for 48 years. They moved to Pocahontas in December, 1936. Mr. Pechan died Dec. 10, 1938. Mrs. Pechan is survived by two daughters, Emma at home and Mrs. W. J. (Mae) Sernett of Rolfe and one son, Edward of Pocahontas, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also two brothers, H. J. Wotapek of Des Moines and Michael of Chicago. Relatives and friends from a distaance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Wotapek, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Walford of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Walsh and son Donald of Callendar; Mrs. Don Trusty of Ft. Dodge; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Roberts and son of Emmetsburg; Mrs. Ross Westerlund of Red Oak; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sernett of Bradgate; Mrs. Art Zeman of Ottosen; Mrs. Claude White Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Rippeger, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Sinek and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hronek of Rolfe.
