Read More	Stratford Courier December 5, 1918 Mrs. Emma Carolina Adamson, nee Peterson, was born in Hagebo, Nykil socken, Sweden on May 31, 1849 and died at her home here November 28, 1918, at the age of 69 years, 5 months and 27 days. She came to America with her parents in the fall of 1853 and they settled on a farm in the Swede Bend community where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to A.P. Adamson in Boone in 1864. They located on a farm in the same community and resided there until 1903 when they moved into Stratford. Their home was blessed with nine children, three of whom have gone before. The living children are: Almon, Lewis of Montana and George of Stratford; Mrs. J.A. Mattson of Marshalltown, Mrs. E.E. Taylor and Mrs. Wallie Ulrich of Stratford. She also leaves six step-children, John, Joseph, David, Andrew, Charley and Carrie Adamson; a brother, Albert Peterson and sister, Mrs. Mary Sanberg also survive. Her husband passed away in the year 1907. The death of this woman marks the passing of another of the pioneer settlers of the community. When she came here as a small child over sixty years ago, this country was wild, untilled and uninhabited except in a very small way. With her parents she lived in this land and helped to make it one of the best producing states in the union. They passed through all the privations and self-denials of that day helping one another when help was needed. It was in this early day that real kindheartedness was learned and when a kind deed was appreciated by everyone. Deceased was a loving mother, and a kind and sacrificing neighbor whose passing will be keenly felt by all. She was baptized and united with the Baptist church here September 16, 1905 of which she was a member until her death. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the residence and the remains laid to rest in Swede Bend Cemetery. Note: Hamilton County Death Records also state Emma is buried at Swede Bend Cemetery. No gravestone was found during a 2010 canvas of the cemetery.
