Description	:	Emma Aulwes, age 92, of Guttenberg, IA, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at the Guttenberg Care Center with her family by her side. She was one of seven daughters born to William and Bertha (Moser) Tomkins on October 25, 1918 in Osterdock. Emma received her education from the Osterdock School. She was united in marriage with Lester "Les" Aulwes on July 3, 1935 in Galena ILL. To this union they were blessed with four children. Read More	Emma Aulwes, age 92, of Guttenberg, IA, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at the Guttenberg Care Center with her family by her side. She was one of seven daughters born to William and Bertha (Moser) Tomkins on October 25, 1918 in Osterdock. Emma received her education from the Osterdock School. She was united in marriage with Lester "Les" Aulwes on July 3, 1935 in Galena ILL. To this union they were blessed with four children. Emma worked at the canning factory, Egg Plant and for twenty years she and her husband owned and operated Les and Me's Drive in. Emma was a long time member of St. Paul Church, the Blazerettes and the Rebekah's. She enjoyed playing cards and playing in the Kitchen Band. Emma was famous for her cooking, more notably her chicken noodle soup with mashed potatoes, ham balls, rolls and coffee cakes and she also made birthday and wedding cakes for many people. Em also was an avid crocheter. She made several doilies and she was responsible for making the Lord's Prayer wall hanging in St. Paul Church but most of all she loved spending time with her family. Those left to cherish Em's memory are her children, Kay (Don) Becker of Guttenberg, Lonnie (Barb) Aulwes of Cary ILL, Gary (Sue) Aulwes of Cedar Rapids; daughter in law Lois Aulwes of Racine Wis; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
