Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, at a later date. ~~~~~~~~~~ Aberdeen News, 29 May 2009 Aberdeen: Ernest "Ernie" Schock, 92, of Aberdeen, S.D., formerly of Forbes, N.D., was born Sept. 24, 1916, on his parents' farm near Long Lake, S.D. Ernie was the son of Christian B. and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Schock. He was raised and helped his parents farm in the Long Lake area. On Oct. 21, 1940, Ernie enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged May 28, 1945. When Ernie returned home, he worked for his parents. On Dec. 9, 1945, Ernie married Olivia Sandmier at which time they moved in with Ernie's uncle, Fred K. Hoffman, and continued farming and began raising registered Hereford cattle. In September, they purchased the Gust Kempf farm, five miles south of Forbes, where they farmed until 1972. In 1973, they purchased the Albert Hauck house and they resided there until they moved to Aberdeen on July 3, 2003. Ernie died of cancer May 25, 2009, at his home in Aberdeen. Ernie was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Forbes, N.D., American Legion Nicholson-Gerdon Post No. 277 of Forbes, VFW, served as township assessor for several years and held other various city offices. He enjoyed visiting, playing cards, Thrashing Bee's, The Flame Restaurant in Aberdeen, taking pictures and spending time with his family and friends. Grateful to have shared in his life are his wife: Olivia Schock, Aberdeen; three daughters, Janice (Steve) Mammenga, Belle Fourche, S.D., Sandra (Charles) Wolf, Hosmer, S.D., Karen (Bob) Mohr, Mitchell, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; one brother, Walter (Elsie) Schock, Ellendale, N.D.; one sister, Ella (John) Weisser, Leola, S.D.; one sister-in-law, Lourentena Schock, Jamestown, N.D. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ronald; three brothers, Edwin, Oscar and Gideon. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Our Savior Lutheran Church, 624 N. Jay St., Aberdeen, Pastor Jais Tinglund officiating. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date.
