Description : In June 1879, Grace Church of Topeka was designated the Cathedral of the diocese at the diocesan convention; The Rev. Richard Ellerby became the first dean on August 1, 1880. In 1886, the northeast portion of Bethany Place (the seminary for women and later called College of the Sisters of Bethany) was set aside for the construction of a cathedral building.
