In his youth his principal work was tending bees, and this remained his lfelong (sic) hobby. Two years later, he resided with his brother on a farm near Byron. On May 4, 1905, he was married to Miss Alvine Kraft of Deshler, Rev. J. Schwerin officiating. This union was blessed with nine children, of whom four died in infancy. A son Otto passed away two years ago. Mr. Meyer moved to a farm near Chester in 1907. He erected partically (sic) all of the improvements on this place, and added other farms. Paul's Lutheran church (sic) near Paul's Lutheran church (sic) near (NOTE: typed as written in newspaper) Stoddard, and has since been one of it's faithful members, serving as treasurer, secretary and trustee. Two years ago his health began to fail. The last three weeks he spent at a Belleville, Kans., hospital. Here he died on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1941, at the age of 66 years, 1 month and 9 days. His departure is mourned by his wife, Alvine Meyer; his son Alvin and family; his daughters, Erna, Lydia and Adelia, at home; one grandchild; three brothers, August and Henry in Germany, and George of Deshler, Nebr.; one sister, Mrs. Christine Dagefoerde of Rockford, Wash.; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church near Stoddard on Friday, Nov. 28, with Rev. J. Vollstedt officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery. The pallbearers were Walter, Arthur and Elmer Meyer, Ernest von Alm, Robert Koch and Hermann Fischer."
