Hultgren—formerly Esther Ericson— were laid to rest in the Union Creek cemetery, Sunday afternoon, March 14, 1915. After a brief illness, of puerperal infection, Mrs. Esther Hultgren, passed away at her home, Wednesday evening, March 10, 1915, at 7 o'clock p.m., at the age of 26 years, 6 months and 8 days. The deceased was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Ericson, and was born at Union Creek, Union county, SD, September 2, 1888. Only four months ago her only brother, Arthur E. Ericson, passed to his reward, in the prime of youth, as a result of a serious accident. His sudden demise was a severe nervous shock to his sister, Esther, the consequence from which she never fully recovered. Esther was baptized and confirmed in the Union Creek Lutheran church and always remained an active, faithful and loyal member. She was very much interested in Sunday school work, as well as the Luther League, choir and orchestra, and also served for some time as organist in the church. On June 6, 1911, she was united in marriage to John A. Hultgren. To them were born two children, a girl, two years old, and a little baby boy, two and a half weeks old, who now, together with their father, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Ericson, are left to mourn the loss of a beloved mother, wife and daughter. But she is not mourned by, these only, but by a large circle of relatives, friends and neighbors, as well as every member of the congregation to which she belonged. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. Johnson, assisted by Rev. L.E. Sjolinder, of Tracy, Minn., and was attended by one of the largest gatherings of sorrowing and sympathizing friends that ever assembled in the Union Creek church. The sermons, both in the English and Swedish languages, were impressive and instructive, great stress being laid on the uncertainty of this life and the necessity of being prepared for a life eternal. The floral tributes were most beautiful and many, and showing to some extent the esteem felt for the departed. Esther was frank and open-hearted, with a kind, loving and cheerful disposition and will be missed by everyone who knew her. To the bereaved husband, children and parents this whole community extend their deep sympathy and condolence in this irreparable loss.
