Description	:	Evan Lorraine Bentley, the third son of Thomas O. and Ida Bentley was born August 8, 1920 at his home in Haakon County, where his family still resides. As an infant he was baptized by Rev. Bly and later renewed his baptismal vows when he was confirmed in August 1936 by Rev. O. H. Olson into the Norwegian Lutheran faith at the Deep Creek Church at Moenville. His entire life was spent in the community except for eleven months which he spent in the service of his country. Read More	Evan Lorraine Bentley, the third son of Thomas O. and Ida Bentley was born August 8, 1920 at his home in Haakon County, where his family still resides. As an infant he was baptized by Rev. Bly and later renewed his baptismal vows when he was confirmed in August 1936 by Rev. O. H. Olson into the Norwegian Lutheran faith at the Deep Creek Church at Moenville. His entire life was spent in the community except for eleven months which he spent in the service of his country. Upon being called into service he chose the army air corps branch in August of 1942. While in training he contracted measles and other complications followed. He was given a medical discharge from the army because the disease from which he suffered (leukemia) was incurable. Everything possible to relieve his suffering and prolong his life was done but on May 7 while at the Colonial Hospital in Rocherter, Minn. Where he had gone for treatment, he slipped unexpectedly and peacefully away. He leaves a host of memories to be cherished by his parents, brothers and sisters. Besides his parents he leaves to mourn his sudden departure, four brothers, Capt. Orville, now serving in Italy, T. Sgt. Curtis, now serving in England, S 1/C Richard, in service in the Pacific and Kenneth at home, two sister in Pierre, Gladys and Dorothy, and three sisters at home, Norma, Alice and Susie, also his grandfather Ole Sandal and six aunts and uncles and many other relatives and a host of friends. Evan was a recent lease of the Socony Vacuum oil station in Midland the last two months and during that time joined the Midland American Legion Post. Evan will be greatly missed by all who knew him and most of all by those nearest and dearest. Funeral services for Evan Bentley veteran of World War II were held at Deep Creek Lutheran Church Friday May 12 with services in charge of Midland Legion post with Rev. O.H. Olson delivering the service. Midland Legion Post assisted by an honor guard from the Pierre Air Base completed the Midland rites. Pallbearers were Paul Roseth of Powell, and Clarence Roseth, Orville Ernst, John Ernst, Paul Newby and Emery Markwed of Moenville. The American flag that covered the casket had been flown over our nation's capital on Navy Day this year and was presented to the father by the war department.
