She had been sick only a week, and although good medical care was summoned, and all done for the little sufferer that could be, she passed away last Sabbath morning, the 29th of June, at 3 o'clock, aged only 9 years, 3 months and 27 days. She was always a child above her years in thoughtfulness and knowledge. Though deprived much of the time from attending Sabbath school and regular church services by reason of the long distance to Glasco, still she made good use of what was afforded her in the home. She dearly loved the Bible and many of the hymns used in public service. She had committed to memory some time before her sickness the 23rd Psalm, and had a desire that the others in the family should learn it. Though so young in life, the Lord was truly a shepherd to her, and when she came to the "valley of the shadow of death," the same Lord was with her. When taken sick she told her father that she would die. It proved to be more than a mere thought -- it became a sad reality. In some way it was revealed to her that she would leave the dear ones. It may have been a vision, or perhaps, in the "still small voice" that God spoke to her. It seems a marvel to all that such a little child should be so endured, and made to see the end of her short life; so early in the morning to see the closing of her earthly day. And with what anxious and loving thoughtfulness, while yet in seeming health, she took as far as she could, the place in the home, of her invalid mother. She always planned to do what it was hard for her mother to do, and each little act and loving word of hers will linger in sweetest memory to all. She was patient in all her sufferings, and the end came peacefully. Her sweet pale face in the coffin bore no evidence of a fierce struggle with death -- in truth she "fell asleep." Her mother sang to her before she passed away, the well known hymn: "Going Down the Valley." This seemed to ease the pain of body, and gave peace and rest to the gentle spirit. She, no doubt, understood the passing away and what it all meant to her. Of such is the Kingdom of heaven. She felt disappointed at not being able to take part in the Children's day exercises, but was consoled with the thought that she might do so at Christmas time. Her wish was more than fulfilled. A greater interest could not have been taken, nor more sincere love shown, to the memory of any one than was manifested in this death, and shown at the funeral services at the house and the burial in Glasco Cemetery, on the day following her death. The services were conducted by Elder B.F. McMillan, of Glasco. The choir composed of members of the churches of Glasco, sang several beautiful and appropriate selections at the house and cemetery, with tenderness of expression. B.F.M.
