Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll with the Rev. Mervin Hood officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The lector for the mass will be a grandson, Kevin Collison. Gift bearers will be grandchildren, Matthew Pheanis, Patricia Collison, and Carol Yeoman. Collison, Michael Collison, Kevin Collison, Dean Timmerman and Moe Burg. Friends and relatives may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2 p.m. on Sunday. Rosaries will be recited at 3 p.m. by the Legion of Mary, and at 8 p.m. Sunday by Holy Spirit Parish and the Carroll Catholic Daughters of America. Mrs. Collison is survived by a son, Art Collison, and his wife, Joanne, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; four daughters: Margaret Mary Collison of Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. James (Alice) Allen of Bennetsville, S.C.; Marilyn T. Collison of South San Francisco, Calif.; and Mrs. Joseph (Carol) Pheanis of San Raphael, Calif.; a nephew, Marvin Barloon of Cleveland, Ohio; five nieces: Mrs. Louis (Camilla) Timmerman of Carroll; Sister Ellen F.S.P.A. of St. Louis, Mo.; Marie DeMott of Omaha, Neb; Edna Ryan of Mason City; and Lillian Jacobsen of Mason City; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maurice, in 1981; three sisters, Minnie Barloon, Nettie Ryan and Nellie Ryan; and two brothers, Daniel and Timothy Ryan. Mrs. Collison was born on Aug. 30, 1893, on a farm near Maple River Junction, a daughter of James and Hanorah Madigan Ryan. She attended rural schools in Carroll County and graduated from Des Moines College in Des Moines. She taught rural schools in Carroll County for seven years and in 1919 was employed by War Risk Insurance in the U.S. Treasury Office in Washington, D.C. Following that, she served as Deputy Treasurer in Carroll County for two years. On June 12, 1923, she married Maurice L. Collison at St. Joseph Church in Carroll with Monsignor Steven Butler officiating. The couple made their home in Carroll. Mrs. Collison was the first woman to serve on the Carroll Community School Board and was also board president. She instigated a program establishing school nurses in Carroll County schools and helped get traffic signals installed near the schools. She was also active in the Red Cross and Community Chest, a forerunner of the current United Way campaign. Mr. and Mrs. Collison celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1973. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and the Parish Ladies Guild. She was a charter member, lifetime member, and past regent of the Carroll Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a charter member of the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Carroll Toastmistress Club, and a member of the Legion of Mary.
