Description	:	Sept 28, 1931 - Carroll Daily - James Ryan, resident of Carroll county for nearly 50 years, died this morning at 1:45 in the home of his daughter Mrs M.L. Collison of North Crawford street. Mr Ryan had been in ill health for about a year and for the last two weeks had been seriously ill. All his children were with him at the time of his death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Joseph's church where requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rev Father M Bradley. Burial will be in St Joseph's cemetery by the side of his wife who died March 14, 1920. James Ryan was born in Youghal, County Waterford, Ireland, Aug 1, 1850. At the age of 16 he came to the US. He went to work with a brother who was a railroad contractor in St Louis, Mo and later took up farming in Illinois. July 1, 1874, Mr Ryan was married to Miss Nora Madigan and in 1882 they began farming in Carroll county. To them the following children were born: T.J. Ryan, county treasurer of Carroll county, Mrs W.J. Barloon and Mrs M.L. Collison, all of Carroll; and Daniel Ryan of Britt. Two daughters: Miss Nettie Ryan died March 8, 1900 and Miss Ellen Ryan died June 1, 1924. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mr Ryan purchased a cottage on West Tenth street in 1920 intending to retire from the farm and with his wife spend the last days in comfort, but Mrs Rayn died that year and they never occupied the home together. Since the death of his wife, Mr Ryan had made his home alternately with his two daughters, Mrs Barloon and Mrs Collison. He was the last of his immediate family. He possessed a kindly disposition, was a good nieghbor, a kind father and was deeply religious. He was a member of the Holy Name sodality and of the St Joseph church and died well fortified with the last rites. Sept 29, 1931 - Carroll Daily - Funeral rites for James Ryan will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock in St. Joseph's church where requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Father M. Bradley. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery by the side of his wife and daughters and the pall bearers, who have been selected, are Frank Bromert, Daniel Murphy, Jerry Murphy, James England, Martin Casey and Matt Nugent. Sept 30, 1931 - Carroll Daily - Many relatives and friends from a distance today attended the funeral of James Ryan, who died early Monday morning. Funeral rites were held in St. Joseph's church this morning by the Rev. Father M Bradley and burial was in St Josephs cemetery. Among those from out of town were the following: Daniel Ryan and daughters, the Misses Lillian and Edna Ryan of Britt; Miss Mary Ryan of Storm Lake; Wilbur Barloon of Clinton; Joe and Paul Ryan of Omaha; Mr and Mrs Jos Carey, Mr and Mrs Martin Carey, Mr and Mrs John P Carey, Thomas Carey, Mr and Mrs John Monahan, son Thomas and daughter Ruth, Mrs M.P. Grace, Lawrence Moras, and Mrs Anderson Fay, all of Churdan; Mr and Mrs John Rickers of Westside; Mr and Mrs Leo Burns of Breda.
