She grew up in the St. Benedict community and graduated from grade school and high school at St. Benedict. She worked on the family farm and did housekeeping at area homes prior to her marriage. She was married to Frank B. Macke on April 30, 1930, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Benedict, KS. Florina and Frank farmed in the St. Benedict and Baileyville area until they retired and moved into Seneca in 1955. She worked with her husband in an insurance office for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, and an excellent seamstress. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Seneca, KS and St. Ann's Altar Society at the church. She was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at St. Benedict, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Baileyville, KS. Survivors are daughter, Gladys Heiman, Baileyville, KS; sons, Lillis Macke, Kansas City, MO; Merlin E. Macke, Summerfield, KS; Larry J. Macke, Baileyville, KS; Gary L. Macke, Fremont, NE; sisters, Margaret Hasenkamp, Seneca, KS; Mildred Melcher, Seneca, KS; brother, Ed Rettele, Denver, CO; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Macke on April 24, 1993, her parents, an infant son in October, 1933, and sisters, Rachel Deters and Eileen Herr. Mass of Christian Burial was held on August 19, 1994, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Seneca, KS. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, St. Benedict, KS.
